What should I look for when buying a used bike?
My price limit is only $ 3000. I see a lot of used bicycles for sale Yamaha and Honda as the 1980's. The bikes say they have low miles and perfect race, but are not familiar with bike maintenance, or a garage to work, I have fear of their elders. For example, a 1200 cc 1983 Yamaha Royale risk with news that carbohydrate said the big races and has only 17K on it. He wants $ 2800 for it. What do you think of this? There is also a 2003 Kawasaki Vulcan 1600 cc for $ 3,200. It has 37K on it. 37K is very much a motorcycle? I'm good to buy cars used, but ignore any purchase of a bicycle. I want a bike to work, and explore the streets of the city. I always choose the best answer. Thanks for your time.
I like old bikes, but a bike that was sitting almost always need work. Cleaning the gas tank, lines and carb in place of many parts rubber become brittle with age. Some parts are difficult to nearly impossible to find. If you are not mechanically inclined, identification is the most recent. 37k is not much for a bike, and 3200 is a good price for this bike in my area. Look at the color of smoke when the bike started cold. None is better, white is acceptable for 2-3 minutes. See below for any evidence of leaking oil, how many owners had the bike, scrapes and scratches in foreign areas indicating the bike was destroyed and not someone say. see if the seal is intact in any case not yet out of the repair of the house. private vendors are often reluctant to allow test drives, but listening to the engine (right?) a From (good?) Brakes (scream?) Goodwill (easily?) You can see looking at seller around. Some vendors allow test rides with the understanding – In case of shipwreck, you've purchased. Some dealerships allow test drives on their bikes, some traders have used more bikes than others. At least you can go sit on a pile to see what suits you.
